SIBU (March 24): A 57-year-old man escaped unhurt after a predawn fire completely razed a house to the ground in Kampung Balingian, Mukah this morning.

The fire also completely destroyed three fishing boats, including their engines, while a swiftlet farmhouse suffered 30 per cent damage.

In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call was received at 1.53am.

The Mukah fire station then sent nine firefighters to the scene, which is around 61km away.

“The fire involved a non-permanent structure house measuring an area of 24 by 36 square feet, which was completely destroyed by the fire,” said the statement.

Firefighters used water sourced from the nearby river to extinguish the fire.
