MIRI: The search for a missing 72-year-old man resumed as the authorities step up their search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The elderly man went missing on Monday (Mar 20) after failing to return home from his farm near Kampung Tiris Bekenu.

Yesterday, (Mar 23), firemen from the Batu Niah fire station received a distress call around 8 am and rushed to the scene with six firefighters to look for the missing man. However, they had to end their search after the search was deemed futile.

A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the operation continued at 8 am today in a 3 kilometre radius from the control post to the elderly man’s house and a palm oil plantation.

A total of 22 personnel from Bomba, People’s Volunteers Corps Department (RELA), Civil Defence Force (APM) and the police are involved.

The search and rescue operation is also assisted by the residents of Kampung Tiris Bekenu.
