KUCHING (March 24): Hope Place recently reached out to aid the family of a bedridden elderly woman with multiple health issues.

It said the woman identified as Chang Siew Fah, 66, had a half-body stroke not too long ago and fractured her right ankle, leaving her without the ability to walk or stand up.

Chang, who lives with her son and daughter, has diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Most of the time, Chang is being cared for by her mentally challenged 46-year-old son, who is her main caregiver. Her son used to sell fruits around Kuching city, but after his mom became wheelchair-bound, he had to take care of her full time.

The son shared that his mother depends on him 24-hours of the day, and gets anxious if she does not see him around.

Meanwhile, Chang’s daughter who is the sole provider for the family works at a supermarket.

Recently, Chang was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) due to worsening health conditions.

Hope Place is currently providing Chang with adult diapers, along with food supply for the whole family.

For more information, Hope Place can be reached at 082-505987. Opening hours are from 8am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to 12 noon (Saturday).
