MIRI: Authorities seized RM7,700,400 worth of diesel from an oil tanker and a tugboat which were allegedly transferring the subsidised item illegally at the Sungai Baong river bank here yesterday.

General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Battalion and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) also detained the two vessels in the raid at 11.15 am.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the tugboat was believed to have completed transferring part of the diesel to the oil tanker when the enforcement teams appeared at the scene.

Upon inspection, the team discovered 630,000 litters of subsidised diesel worth RM7,703,400 inside both vessels.

“The skippers of the two vessels failed to produce any valid permits for possession of the controlled item,” he said.

A 20-metre long hose suspected to have been used in the illegal oil transfer and a liquid control meter worth RM6,000 were also seized.

Alexson said the total value of the seized items were RM7,709,400.
