KUALA LUMPUR: City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim has been promoted as Bukit Aman Management Department director.

He will be replaced by his deputy, Deputy Comm Datuk Yahaya Othman who will be the acting police chief effective March 24.

Federal Logistics and Technology Department director Comm Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan who witnessed the handing over of duties ceremony congratulated Comm Azmi on the promotion.

"We thank Comm Azmi for his contributions in heading the city police force.

"We also hope that all personnel and officers will give their full cooperation to Deputy Comm Yahaya now.

"I am confident that he is capable of dispensing his duties and responsibilities well," he said in his speech at the city police headquarters on Friday (March 24).

He added that he was confident that with strategic management, the city police would continue to excel.

Comm Azmi takes over as the Management Department director from Comm Datuk Seri Zaini Jass who retired on March 9.

Comm Azmi said he could not be prouder of the accomplishments of his personnel while he was the police chief.

"Our personnel recorded high performance, the highest charging rate not only for normal crimes but also commercial crimes, narcotics and roadblocks.

"The number of our officers with disciplinary issues has also decreased. I hope this will continue," he said.
