JOHOR BARU, March 23 — Johor police seized 44.3 kilogrammes of various types of illicit drugs worth more than RM3.22 million from separate raids around the city yesterday.

During the operation, police also arrested two men aged 34 and 36 believed to be drug dealers and storekeepers for further investigation.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the drugs were seized in three raids conducted in three gated residential areas in this city.

“Investigators revealed that the modus operandi used by the drug syndicate was to use the gated residential areas to evade police.

“This includes using their vehicle as a storage and operating safely in an enclosed residential area,” Kamarul Zaman told reporters during a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today.

He said police seized 119,750 Erimin 5 psychotropic pills weighing 36.9kg worth RM2.7 million, 5.36kg of ecstasy powder worth RM270,000, 903 grammes of ketamine worth RM140,000 as well as ecstasy pills.

He said the seized drugs can feed more than 150,000 addicts.

“In addition, the police also seized four vehicles estimated to be worth RM200,000 as well as various jewellery and cash during the raids.

“In total, the confiscated valuables amounted to RM210,000 while the total amount including the drugs and confiscated property was at RM3.5 million,” said Kamarul Zaman.

Meanwhile, Kamarul Zaman said one of the suspects had a criminal record while his accomplice tested positive for drug abuse.

“The investigation is still ongoing under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The two suspects have been remanded for seven days starting yesterday to March 28,” he said.
